SSP Patrick Onyango, the public relations officer of Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP), identified the deceased as Julius Mugaga.

The 32-year-old lecturer is a resident of Kasubi in Mengo, Lubaga division, Kampala.

According to Onyango, the incident was reported to police on May 16 at 12:33 A.M.

"The incident happened at an unknown time and place," he said.

"On Thursday, May 16, 2024, police received information that fishermen had seen a body floating at the shores of Lake Victoria at Senene Island."

According to an eyewitness, the body of Julius Mugaga was floating facing up.

Police picked this information from a WhatsApp group of Luzira and responded to the crime scene and documented it.

They recorded statements from relevant witnesses, said Onyango who added that the body of the deceased was picked from Senene Island by a team of casual experts and brought up to Port Bell for easy retrieval.

It was then conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem.

Patrick Onyango noted the police findings as follows:

  1. At the scene, police got Aquos' mobile phone, a bank deposit slip from Equity Bank dated May 13 in the name of Julius Mugaga, and a pair of rubber blue sandals recovered near the body at the shores.
  2. The body was found in a decomposing state dressed in a dark and light blue t-shirt and a pair of assorted colour shorts.
  3. The relatives were identified through the missed calls in the deceased phone and one Alex Ssebufu, a biological brother identified the deceased as Mugaga.
  4. A case of disappearance was reported at Kawala Police Station.

Inquiries into the matter continue, according to Patrick Onyango.
