The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga is disappointed over the recent violent clashes between Ugandan musicians Alien Skin and Pallaso.
Speaking during a meeting with singer Spice Diana ahead of her concert, Mayiga condemned the brawl, which started on December 31 at the Buganda Kingdom’s Enkuuka festival and later escalated to the Empere festival in Entebbe and Alien Skin’s home in Kampala.
Mayiga questioned why the two musicians did not seek his intervention to resolve their differences peacefully.
“There are two artists, Alien Skin and Pallaso, who got into a big fight they almost killed each other,” he said.
“Why couldn’t they come here and ask me for help to resolve whatever they are fighting about?”
The Katikkiro expressed concern about the seriousness of the confrontation, which involved weapons and caused significant damage to Alien Skin’s property.
“What if someone died in that clash?” he asked, adding that the violence makes fans fearful of attending their shows, thus undermining the entertainment industry.
Mayiga stressed that the strength of an artist lies in their talent, not in gangs or violence.
Reflecting on the artists’ Buganda ancestry, he noted that Alien Skin (Patrick Mulwana) belongs to the Mamba clan, while Pallaso (Pius Mayanja) is from the Ngabi clan, the same as Mayiga’s mother.
“The Mayanja family is extremely talented. We would wish to see them fly around the world to showcase their talent. We don’t expect them in fights,” he said.
The Katikkiro warned that such behaviour could ruin their careers. “If you involve yourselves in fights, your talent will die,” he said, urging the artists to focus on their music rather than conflict.
Mayiga also cautioned musicians against becoming entangled in politics. “Politicians use you. But remember they found you with your fame. They did not make you what you are. Why are you handing your talent to them?” he asked.
He encouraged artists to concentrate on their craft and avoid being exploited by political figures, as it could detract from their creativity and achievements.
