The music promoter had been buying cars from a broker called Onyango and this time he brought him a deal to buy a Range Rover that belonged to Jyostna, the wife of businessman Sudhir Ruparelia, believed to be the wealthiest man in Uganda.
Sipapa, real name Charles Olim, acquired the ride at Shs85 million.
While appearing on NTV in 2020, he told Faridah Nakazibwe that he had been saving the money to buy a Fuso to carry his music equipment during promotions and events but Onyango convinced him that owning such a car would elevate his social status.
Onyango was right, as Sipapa said that shortly after getting the car, people started cooking up all sorts of stories about his sources of income, some negative, others positive. For instance, he said, some people said that he stole Minister Kahinda Otafiire's gold.
But that news was a blessing in disguise, as Sipapa would land a deal from a Sudanese who was looking for someone to buy gold. At the time, he said, he had never seen gold.
Who is Sipapa?
During the interview, he revealed that he was born in 1989 and he hails from Tororo but grew up in Mutungo, a Kampala suburb.
His formal education stopped after Primary Seven due to a lack of school fees, and hustling at a young age would earn him a two-year prison sentence in 2008.
When he came out in 2010, he continued doing 'this and that' until landed some money to buy speakers that he rented out during the 2011 elections and earned some significant cash.
Teaming up with a deejay called Black who used to work with Jose Chameleone, they started organising events and they mainly used to hire Chameleone and Bobi Wine.
The first show he organised had Diana Nalubega, Big Eye, and Charles Sekyewa at Club PTC Ewa Mitanda.
He fell out with Bobi Wine over money issues and with Chameleone over being friendly with Daniella Atim.
