King Saha to sue police; claims arresting officer was drunk

The singer accuses the police officers of displaying unprofessionalism and trampling on his rights and those of his fans.

Saha had his show disrupted by police at The Villa, in Bukoto on Wednesday evening. Shortly after stepping on stage, he says, a police officer only identified as OC Muzahura came and ordered him to stop the show.

He claims the police officer was heavily intoxicated and violent.

“He was drunk…his eyes were red and he was very angry as he brandished his weapon among the revellers,” Saha said.

“It was disturbing because the police know my address, they could have come to me or summoned me rather than coming to my place of work to disrupt people. My fans are taxpayers who pay their salaries.”

Saha says police attempted to arrest him on stage but he managed to slip out through the back entrance and vanished using another person’s car.

He says the police chased him up to Nabweru before they gave up.

Taking action

Saha is now contemplating taking the police officers to courts of law.

“If they cannot tell me what I have done, I going to serve Afande Muzahura for infringing on my fans’ rights,” he vowed.

Police clarifies

Police, however, clarified last night that they were simply enforcing order at The Villa.

Luke Owoyesigire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, described the situation at the hangout as “chaotic” by the time Saha went on stage.

“There were a lot of people, there was hardly any parking space and the space was limited,” he said.

“The show itself seemed like a concert and the security people were concerned because we were never informed about it. There was no proper checking at the entrance, we thought this might endanger the people.”

Owoyesigire adds that they had no issue with Saha as a person, but the situation was at his show.
