The Controversial Episode

In a recent episode of '90 Day Fiancé' Season 11, the spotlight was on Joan, a 26-year-old woman from Kampala, Uganda, and her fiancé Greg, a 35-year-old American residing with his mother in Long Island.
The episode depicted Joan's move to the United States to be with Greg, but tensions arose concerning her personal hygiene habits.
Greg's mother expressed concerns about Joan's routine of taking multiple showers daily, fearing it would escalate water and electricity bills.
Greg attempted to justify Joan's habits by stating, "She lives in Uganda; they don't necessarily always have hot water."
This remark was perceived by many as perpetuating stereotypes about living conditions in Uganda.
The situation escalated when Greg's mother confronted Joan directly, questioning the necessity of showering three times a day.
She suggested that Joan could "jump in the pool" if she needed to bathe and advised against "abusing" the water with 10-minute showers.

Reactions from Ugandans
The episode sparked a significant backlash on social media platforms, with many Ugandans expressing their anger and disappointment:
One user, Lucky, commented, "My anger issues could never let me stay in that house another day."
Another, Herly, advised, "Joan, just pack your bags and come back to Uganda. These are all red flags."
A different user questioned Greg's stereotype, stating, "In Uganda, we don’t have what? Kilabe ebbuto."
Others highlighted the absurdity of the situation: "Imagine marrying into a family that complains about you showering," and "Leaving Uganda to go to a place they complain about you showering is crazy."
The Couple's Backstory
Greg and Joan's relationship began through an unexpected connection.
While on a flight, Greg fell asleep on the shoulder of a fellow passenger, who happened to be a Ugandan tour operator.
This chance meeting led to a friendship, and Greg was invited to visit Uganda.
During his stay, he checked into a guest house where he met Joan within the first hour. They began communicating but lost touch after Greg returned to the U.S.
Approximately a year and a half later, Joan sent Greg a friend request on Facebook, rekindling their connection.
Greg subsequently travelled back to Uganda and proposed to Joan on her birthday.
