<h2>Every first Monday in May the biggest names in fashion, media, politics, finance and more recently crypto gather at the steps of the Metropolitan Museum in New York for the MET Gala.</h2>

The event is a charity function that is meant to raise money for scholarships and other projects for the Costume Institutes, a department devoted to fashion at the MET. But over the years, this shindig, hosted by Vogue editor and Global Chief Content Officer of Condé Nast, Anna Wintour has become the defining fashion event for the who is who in the world.

Invites to past editions has been extended to everybody from Tems to BurnaBoy to Lupita Nyong'o&nbsp;. Last year's exhibit was "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty."

This year it's "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion," while the theme for the event is “The Garden of Time.” But so far, no one is sleeping tonight. The fashion industry and its muses are at high alert.

Cohen, who accompanied Parker on the red carpet, wore a classic black-velvet tuxedo.

The Broadway star turned heads in an uber-colorful, butterfly-inspired look that featured a dramatic golden headpiece and aquamarine gown.

The English actor and director looked ethereal in a soft-gray gown adorned with a flurry of multi-colored wildflowers. The gown also featured sheer sleeves with matching flowers.

Chen, who is the director of fashion partnerships at Instagram, skipped the florals and opted for a long-sleeved futuristic black dress covered in a white splatter pattern.

The actor arrived at the Met Gala in a netted dress that was almost entirely sheer. Leaves adorned the short-sleeved gown, and it belted at the waist with a black bow.

The Instagram CEO arrived in a black velvet suit with a pussybow tie and ruffled shirt. His jacket was adorned with floral brooches, which coordinated with Monica Mosseri's floral off-the-shoulder gown.

The "One Day" actor was a vision in champagne and black on the Met Gala red carpet.

The actor put his own spin on classic menswear in a peacoat-style suit with floral brooches, square-toed loafers, and a silk tie.

Ariana Grande returned to the Met Gala red carpet for the first time since 2018.

She looked like a princess in her strapless white gown, which created an iridescent illusion across its skirt with pastel panels.The "Wicked" star also wore her hair in a ponytail, sported flower petals next to each eye, and donned delicate earrings. She last attended the "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination"-themed event six years prior.

The singer looked classically chic in a Christian Cowan black suit, sheer black skirt, and pale-blue tie.

The actor brought flamingo pink to the red carpet in a trailing, floral-appliqu-covered gown.

Gabrielle Union's gown took 9,500 hours to create.

Union's metallic ombr tulle gown was designed by Michael Kors. According to E! host Zanna Roberts Rassi, it was hand-embroidered  by 12 artisans with five different colors of sequins.

Camila Cabello carried one of the boldest accessories of the night.

Cabello walked the red carpet with a clutch made by Jane Wade that was timed to melt as she walked up the steps. She told E! correspondent Ross Mathews on the red carpet: "When I leave, I'll just have a rose!"Her dress was designed by Ludovic de Saint Sernin and crafted from 250,000 Swarovski crystals. She said it required 450 hours of work and was "very heavy," weighing 15 pounds.

Dove Cameron and Damiano David made their Met Gala debut in edgy ensembles.

The couple wore Diesel, with David sporting a see-through suit and Cameron in a sheer gown.Her pink dress flowed into a long train behind her, and each long sleeve had cape-style pieces that moved with her.

Elsa Pataky and Chris Hemsworth coordinated in tan and gold.

Tom Ford designed Hemsworth's suit, which he wore with a vest and unbuttoned satin shirt underneath.Pataky stood beside him in a glimmering gown that had long sleeves, a mock neckline, and a floor-length skirt. She completed her look with gold bangles and a matching crown.

Lil Nas X showed up in style alongside fashion designer Raul Lopez.

Both the musician and fashion designer wore Lopez's brand Luar, which received major hype during New York Fashion Week.Lil Nas X's outfit included a white tank top, matching pants, and a jacket bedazzled with silver sparkles. Lopez stood beside him in a tan top and trousers that were held together with dozens of buttons.

Kardashian wore yet another extreme corset to the Met Gala. This year she opted for a custom John Galliano gown featuring a couture corset with a gray cashmere cardigan on top.

Kylie's soft-pink Oscar de la Renta dress had a strapless neckline with pointed cups. The form-fitting skirt turned into a dramatic train in the back, and she wore a flower in her updo.

Jenner walked the Met Gala in an archival Givenchy dress from 1999 that was designed by Alexander McQueen. The black gown had a plunging neckline and a panel of sheer fabric at the waist that formed a point in both the front and back. Both the sheer fabric and the neckline were lined with sparkly, black fabric.

The rapper chose a cream Luar suit with a dramatic. train for the Met Gala. Both his shirt and pants were covered in silver fabric lined with buttons.

Kidman's white ball gown had a full skirt with black ruffles on the skirt, and the structured bodice had a strapless neckline. White gloves completed the ensemble.

Grande's strapless dress from Loewe was adorned with flowers on the strapless bodice. Draping sat atop the dropped-waist skirt, which was made of sheer white fabric.

Williams' gold gown had one strap and layers of fabric flowing out from the skirt to create a massive, deconstructed train. She paired black gloves and tights with the look.

The "Succession" star wore a velvet, navy tuxedo that had black lapels. His wife, "Bodyguard" star Keeley Hawes, wore an off-the-shoulder gown with puffed sleeves and a bold floral print.

The Blonds designed the bright-red, high-low gown Taylor wore to the Met Gala. The dress had a strapless, corset bodice adorned with flower-petal embellishments.

The designer's brown and white gown had an asymmetrical, one-shoulder corset bodice. A thigh-high slit in the skirt balanced the look.

Ford paired black tuxedo pants with a red, velvet blazer from Saint Laurent. He added a white flower to his lapel.

Fanning brought the Cinderella transformation moment to life with her celestial Balmain gown made of glass. The sheer and glistening off-the-shoulder dress appeared to be held up by two icy birds.

Palmer dazzled in a shimmering custom Marc Jacobs dress that featured antique beaded embroidery. She paired the ensemble with a sky-high ponytail.

Snchez made her Met Gala debut in a custom black-and-white Oscar de la Renta gown designed to look like shattered glass. The strapless dress featured a velvet black bodice and a voluminous skirt covered in roses.

Moore wasn't afraid to go bold in a structural black gown covered in bright-pink roses. The dress featured a heart-shaped shoulder piece with arrows pointing outward, creating a fan-like effect.

Crz's Chanel elegant ball gown had an off-the-shoulder neckline and full skirt. The dress was covered in black lace, giving it a gothic feel.

Minogue's Diesel dress not only hugged her figure but created the illusion that her body was visible, as the blue and silver fabric was designed to look like a woman's body. Its dramatic train attached to her wrist.

The Balmain creative director paired a black blazer and pants with a top made of sand, like Tyla's dress. Rousteing's created the shape of a face.

Lee arrived in a sheer, white dress designed by Loewe. The gown was covered in floral applique, and its curved neckline nearly covered Lee's face.

Batiste's black suit looked simple at first glance, but a closer glance revealed his floral-patterned vest. He also wore a sparkly brooch.

Russell arrived in a custom Loewe dress. The bodice of her high-neck gown appeared to be made of wood, contrasting with the dropped-waist skirt made of flowing white fabric.

Ora's Tom Ford dress was completely open on the sides, with the gown's shiny, multicolored fabric gathering at her waist and flowing to the floor.Waititi accompanied her in a brown, leather suit from Marni.

Cameron and David walked the Met Gala red carpet in contrasting looks, with Cameron wearing a textured, floral dress and David opting for a semi-sheer black suit.Cameron's pink dress featured dramatic sleeves that flowed into a train. Diesel designed the couple's looks.

Brody added an oversized, silver bird brooch to his black suit.

Thurman blossomed in a periwinkle gown that felt straight out of a scene from "Bridgerton." The elegant dress featured a shoulder-piece of blooming flowers that flowed down her back.

The longtime couple arrived in coordinating, all-white ensembles. Kris' coat from Oscar de la Renta, which she wore over a dress, was adorned with oversized flowers, and her elbow-length gloves ensured she looked like a cloud of white.Gamble accessorized his white suit with sparkly pins on his lapel.

Harlow wore a charcoal suit with shiny lapels. He accessorized the look with a floral brooch.

The "Daisy Jones & The Six" actor wore a bold Chanel gown featuring a large midriff cutout, blue and pink floral appliqus, and a flowing black chiffon skirt.

Eddie Redmayne's illusion ensemble popped at the Met Gala.

The actor's Steve O Smith look consisted of a blazer and skirt. Both were made of black and sheer fabric, making it seem as if pieces of the suit were missing.An underlayer of tulle sat beneath the skirt, which looked like pants from a distance.

Lana Del Rey looked as though she stepped out of a fairytale.

Alexander McQueen custom-made the musician's gown, which was tan and decorated with brown branches.Twigs extended above her head and held a draped piece of tan tulle in place like a veil.Del Rey also wore a rose-shaped bracelet around her wrist.

Fashion designer Harris Reed wore a statement jumpsuit and matching hat.

The top of his outfit extended past his shoulders almost like leaves, and fabric wrapped around his hips gave the garment dimension and texture.Not only was the printed outfit eye-catching on the red carpet, but it also looked like an art piece, especially when paired with its matching hat.

Phoebe Dynevor looked pretty in pink with her sheer gown.

Dynevor swapped her "Bridgerton" blue for an ultra-feminine Victoria Beckham gown. She is the first person to wear the designer to the Met, according to Vogue.The pink gown was almost entirely sheer, save for some strategically placed floral appliqus.

Their shimmering gown was custom-made by Vera Wang. It had wide waist cutouts, a halter neckline, and a see-through skirt that reached the floor.But what made the dress stand out was its oversize sequins, which covered every inch of its sheer fabric.

Alia Bhatt honored her culture in a custom sari by Sabyasachi Mukherjee.

The actor's mint-green sari gown was covered in crystals and floral embroidery that took over 1,900 hours to create, according to Vogue.

Rebecca Hall looked ethereal in a gray gown decorated with hand-painted flowers.

Hall's strapless Danielle Frankel dress was made with silk organza and printed with a watercolor effect. Flowers were also painted on Hall's arms to match her sheer gloves.The actor and director told Vogue that the gown's fabric immediately captured her."It looked like water made of flowers or flowers made of water, but there was so much depth I found it intriguing," she said."When I put it on, it made me feel like Ophelia resuscitated and walking out of the lake dripping with flowers — and I thought, 'Yes, that's a strong concept to work with!'"

Maria Sharapova brought a big splash of color to the Met Gala red carpet.

Sharapova sported a stunning bright green Prabal Gurung dress, which was paired with a dramatic cape decorated with voluminous flowers.Gurung told Town & Country that the gown was made with organic natural cotton."I wanted to blend the ideas of Sleeping Beauty and the garden of time, combining the delicateness and floral elements into a couture gown," he added.

Keke Palmer had one of the best fashion moments of her career.

She wore a custom Marc Jacobs piece designed to showcase art and fashion's fragility. Its mesh fabric was ripped and frayed across its skirt, and its sleeves featured similar tears.Palmer completed the look with Almasika jewelry.

Shakira painted the town red in a crimson Carolina Herrera gown with a long train and crystal brooch in the center of her chest.

The model turned heads in a crystal-covered catsuit designed by Swarovski.

Hamilton arrived wearing a monochromatic black look with a branch-inspired necklace and coat covered in sparkling floral appliqus.

The "Von Dutch" singer looked like she had run through a prickly rose bush, resulting in a distressed, white off-the-shoulder gown by Marni.

The "All of Us Strangers" actor bore his arms in a sleeveless black tuxedo vest, sheer black tank, and gold accessories.

The "Shape of You" singer channeled vintage style in a powder-blue suit, undone silver tie, and matching cummerbund.

Stella McCartney designed the singer's two-piece look, which consisted of a chain-mail crop top and coordinating bottoms. A floor-length, knit cape offset the metallic set.

The basketball player's teal Marco Capaldo gown had a plunging neckline and a layer of ruffled feathers at her waist. A sheer skirt flowed to the floor.

"The Idea of You" heartthrob kept things classic in a custom Fendi tuxedo with dramatic lapels.

The country singer wore a completely sheer gown featuring pink and orange flowers, while Stokes opted for an open-front sequin suit and cross-motif jewelry.

Yeoh walked the red carpet in a trailing silver gown, which almost resembled aluminum foil, and Cindy Chao jewelry.

The "Riverdale" actress brought feminine glamour to the red carpet in a silky rose-gold Altuzarra dress with a floral accent.

The "Challengers" star paired a black, oversized blazer with loose, white trousers. Black shoes and a large radish brooch completed the look.

The supermodel also wore a chain-mail Stella McCartney look, pairing a hooded crop top with a floor-length white skirt.

The "Barbie" actress glistened in a floor-length white gown covered in shimmering paillettes. The back of her gown featured a large bow that trailed behind her.

The singer returned to her first Met Gala in eight years wearing a sequined silver gown covered in bold metallic flowers.

The actor's off-white dress featured an asymmetrical bodice adorned with sparkles. The floor-length skirt had a slit on one side, and a train flowed behind her as she walked.

Henson wore a white strapless Jonathan Simkhai dress that appeared to cinch her waist. A mermaid skirt flowed into a train.

The model's pink Swavorski gown sparkled from head to toe. It featured three-dimensional appliqus that looked like flowers and branches.

The heiress wore a peach dress from Conner Ives. A swath of fabric adorned with floral appliqus flowed across the neckline and into a train, and the hem of the dress featured a print of a bird.

Zendaya changed into a second themed look and walked the Met Gala red carpet again. For her wardrobe change, the star wore a vintage Givenchy Haute Couture by John Galliano dress from Spring/Summer 1996. It had off-the-shoulder sleeves and a billowing train.She paired the dress with a headpiece that looked like a bouquet of flowers, with stems jutting out from the top of her head.

Usher first appeared to wear all-black at the Met Gala, arriving in a black suit with a cape and wide-brimmed hat. But he shed the cape on the carpet, revealing red, floral detailing on his jacket that coordinated with the red rose he carried.

Minaj popped on the red carpet in a bright-yellow dress from Marni. Multicolored, three-dimensional flowers sat atop the dress, and Minaj paired the dress with yellow shoes and a yellow clutch.

Gap custom-designed the actor's denim gown, which had a scooped neckline and panels separated by white seams lining the length of the dress. The skirt sat on her hips and flowed into a layered train made of fabric in multiple denim washes.

The model's form-fitting dress was made entirely of Swarovski crystals, as Vogue reported. The sparkly dress featured over 84,000 crystals, and a corset cinched her waist.

Shannon arrived in a black suit with an off-white tie and shirt. He carried a bag of Balenciaga chips as he walked the red carpet.

Cindy Crawford's model daughter kept things simple and elegant for the Met, sporting a strapless white gown that shimmered with subtle sequins. Gerber paired the look with a fresh blowout that would've made her mother proud.

Meg Ryan's black dress had a semi-sheer bodice with floral detailing, while the black skirt was covered in sparkles.

Floral embroidery covered Williams' white minidress, which featured a sheer overlay that flowed into a delicate train. Her hair was dyed pink, and she wore a Chanel tiara with the bright hairdo.

The singer channeled a tree with her Victor Weinsanto ensemble, which hugged her figure and curved upwards from the hem, resembling roots.Dried flowers were pressed beneath the fabric, as E! reported, and she wore a coordinating headpiece that framed her face.

Ludovic de Saint Sernin designed Cabello's Met Gala dress. The form-fitting dress was adorned with crystals, and the neckline featured lace-up detailing. She also carried a block of ice with a flower inside as her clutch, which she said was designed to melt throughout the night.

Sweeney's Miu Miu gown had an asymmetrical neckline and a full skirt, and the teal fabric was adorned with tree embellishments. She paired the look with black gloves and a black bob.

Cardi's black tulle gown was designed by Windowsen. The bodice was form-fitting, while the dropped-waist skirt was made of layers of fabric that flowed dramatically. A black headpiece completed the look.

Williams' Michael Kors' gown had a scooped neckline that plunged in the center. The black-and-white patterned gown hugged her figure before flowing out into a mermaid skirt and train.

The singer wore a wet T-shirt dress that reached the floor. She completed her look with mascara running down her face.

Keoghan's Burberry three-piece suit was made of olive velvet fabric. His poplin top and top hat gave the look an old-fashioned feel.

Carpenter arrived in an Oscar de la Renta gown. The bodice of the dress was black, while the mermaid skirt was made of blue fabric that puffed out around her legs and flowed into a train.
