Enock Joel Mubiru, a student from the College of Natural Sciences (CoNAS), is among the standout achievers at Makerere University’s 75th graduation ceremony, set for January 13–17, 2025.

Graduating on Tuesday, January 14, Mubiru will walk the stage as the top-performing student in the sciences.

Born in 2001 to Francis Nsubuga and Lydia Nambejja in Luwafu, Makindye Division, Kampala District, Mubiru’s academic journey began at Canan Primary School in Makindye.

He later attended Kabale Ssanje Secondary School in Kyotera District, excelling in his O’ and A’ Level studies. At A’ Level, Mubiru achieved an impressive 17 points in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, earning him a government scholarship to study a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics at Makerere University.

Despite his humble background, Mubiru’s relentless drive and academic brilliance earned him bursaries throughout his education, alleviating his parents of school fees from lower primary onward.

His exceptional performance culminated in a stellar CGPA of 4.91, making him the top science graduate of his class.

Enock Joel Mubiru credits much of his success to his lecturers’ mentorship, particularly Dr. Saul Nsubuga from the Department of Mathematics, who provided guidance and connected him to transformative opportunities.

One of these is his role as an Operations Analyst at Xeno Investment, which he began after completing his studies in June 2024. Mubiru also tutors mathematics to students from Uganda, the USA, Italy, and Northern Cyprus, showcasing his global impact.

Expressing gratitude to his parents for their steadfast support and to CoNAS for fostering his academic growth, Mubiru remains determined to advance his education. He plans to pursue a Master’s degree and PhD in Mathematics, with aspirations to teach mathematics across various educational levels.

Looking to the future, he hopes to establish a leading data analytics firm in Uganda, reflecting his passion for the dynamic data science field.

Mubiru’s advice to students is clear: focus and commitment are essential for excellence. He emphasizes the importance of participating in discussions, consulting teachers regularly, and dedicating ample time to revision.

He encourages Makerere University students to strive for success from their first year and actively engage in academic activities.

Given Makerere’s large student population, Mubiru calls on the University Management to invest in better learning infrastructure, ensuring all students have the support they need to thrive.

Mubiru’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming a global mathematics tutor and a top graduate exemplifies determination, hard work, and a commitment to excellence. His story is an inspiration for students striving to achieve greatness against all odds.
