Ugandan diplomat Richard Kabonero has shared his grief on social media following the death of his son, Robert “Bobby” Kabonero.

“With deep sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved son Robert ‘Bobby’ Kabonero. Burial plans will be shared in time,” Kabonero wrote on X.

Many Ugandans responded with messages of support, including Agriculture Minister Frank Tumwebaze, who said: “Take heart, Amb @richardkabonero. The pain of losing a child 💔 is deep & unbearable. You have our love & prayers!”

Robert “Bobby” Kabonero was 24 years old. He died on May 9 after a long illness. Some reports say he shot himself in a suicide attempt.

He had been in hospital in Nairobi for three months. Doctors and family tried everything to save him, but he passed away surrounded by those who loved him.

Born on July 31, 2000, Bobby was known for his warm smile and caring nature. Not long ago, he worked as an intern at Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala, showing the same passion for public service as his father.

Co-workers praised Bobby for being humble, hardworking, and always polite. His death has left many in shock, especially among Uganda’s diplomatic and political community where his father is well respected.

Family, friends, and members of the public have reached out to offer comfort during this difficult time.
