Byaruhanga took to social media to announce the exciting development, calling it the “start of a new chapter.”
“After a decade of reporting from across Africa and other parts of the world, I am starting a new job as a presenter and correspondent,” she announced.
As a correspondent, Byaruhanga said, she will continue “telling stories from the UK and around the world.”
Byaruhanga joined the BCC in the late 2000s as a producer before being assigned as a field journalist in 2012 to cover African countries including, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, the Central African Republic, and Somalia.
Her journalistic work since has involved traversing different parts of the world to report on breaking stories and other important global events such as the immigration crisis in the US, the Russia-Ukraine war, and the recent military coups in West Africa.
At the BBC she now joins another talented Ugandan presenter and correspondent Nancy Kacungira.
Following the merger of BBC World News and BBC News in April 2023, Kacungria became one of the main presenters and correspondents for the new channel covering for its chief presenters, presenting mainly evening programs the Daily Global with Nancy Kacungira, The Context, and the BBC Weekend News,
Byaruhanga is also joining another Ugandan Allan Kasujja, who has been working as presenter of the BCC Radio program “News Day” since 2012.
Kasujja joined other people to congratulate Byaruhanga on her promotion.
