NUP President Bobi Wine led a team of NUP officials and family members to visit the jailed party members, including his bodyguard Eddy Mutwe, Smart Wakabi, Gaddafi Mugumya and Acleo Kivumbi at the Masaka Central Prison.
Mutwe was remanded after he was brought to the Masaka Magistrates' court on Monday, where he was read charges related to robbery.
He had been in captivity for over a week, where he was severely tortured.
Eddy Mutwe narrates ordeal
After visiting the inmates, Bobi Wine recounted to reporters what Mutwe told him.
He said Mutwe was waterboarded and electrocuted several times a day.
“He told us he was waterboarded. They tied his face with a towel and poured water on him to create the effect of drowning. He was electrocuted. He was made to sit in a basin of water where they inserted live cables.”

Muhoozi visits
On the third day of his detention, Mutwe says the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, himself came in dressed in a military uniform and that he was tortured in his presence.
“He says that when Muhoozi walked in, they pulled the blindfold from his face, and he saw the CDF,” Bobi Wine said.
“The CDF then asked him in Runyankole language, “Amagara.” (This is a common greeting that translates loosely, 'how is life?')
“Eddy Mutwe, not understanding the greeting, responded in Luganda, ‘Tebannaba kugampa’ (They haven’t given it to me yet).” That is how the beatings started," said Bobi Wine

Last week, Gen Muhoozi posted a picture of Mutwe in detention, his head shaven, and revealed that he was being taught the Runyakole language.
'Mutwe needs medical intervention'
Bobi Wine appealed to Ugandans to demand the release of Eddy Mutwe and his co-accused, to enable them get proper treatment.
“His body is full of fresh wounds. Handcuffs cut through his arms. We know that they are keeping him in prison so that the world does not see the situation he is in. he says he is unable to sleep. He is currently in the prison hospital,” he said
Mutwe’s Mother, Jane Nantumbwe, also made the same appeal.
“We ask that they release him and take him for treatment because he is in so much pain. He is unable to walk on his own. We pray that they allow him to go get treatment from outside,” she said.
