Yesterday, Friday, the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP)announced the removal of Mpuuga from the Parliament’s governing body, and the appointment of Zaake.

Zaake previously served in the commission until he was suspended in October 2022 over misconduct.

Grateful to his party

Yesterday, the Mityana MP said he was grateful to his party for sending him back to the commission.

“I want to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to my party, especially the incredible decision-making organ known as NEC, for endorsing my nomination as a parliamentary commissioner,” he said.

I want to assure everyone that I will serve with utmost dedication, never bringing shame to our party, but always upholding our core values. Together, let's make a difference and represent the people with integrity!

Hon Mpuuga fell out with his party, the NUP where he serves as Vice President, after he was accused of soliciting Shs 500 million from the parliamentary commission.

The Nyendo-Mukungwe MP denied the allegations and vowed not to vacate the commission.

Last week, the NUP invited Mpuuga to defend himself in writing and show cause as to why he should not be removed from the commission.

Waiswa Mufumbiro, the NUP deputy spokesperson revealed yesterday, that Mpuuga had indeed written back defending himself, but that his defence was found too weak, prompting the NEC to proceed with his replacement.

Mufumbiro said the Party expected Mpuuga to heed its decision.
