Six pupils from Trust Infant Primary School in Nakaseke sustained injuries in the crash, which occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. while they were on their way to a school tour at Entebbe Zoo.

ASP Michael Kananura, the traffic police spokesman says the accident involved an Isuzu bus with the registration number UBA 839S and a Toyota Double Cabin with the registration number UG 2402C.

The school bus failed to brake as it approached the Nkumba traffic lights from the Kampala side, colliding with the Toyota Double Cabin from behind.

The impact caused the bus to overturn, leading to the injuries of the six pupils. The injured were promptly taken to Sub Medical Centre Nkumba for medical attention.

"The driver of the Isuzu Bus is currently at large, and a police hunt is underway," said ASP Kananura, highlighting the urgency of the situation. Both vehicles involved in the crash have been towed to Nkumba Police Station for further investigation.

Earlier crash

This recent accident has raised concerns about road safety in the area, especially at the Nkumba traffic lights, which have become notorious for road incidents. Earlier this year, a similar accident occurred at the same location involving a cement mixer truck.

In that incident, the truck lost control and crashed a smaller car, killing its driver Raphael Okiot.

Okiot was a lawyer and lecturer at KIU.

The repeated incidents at this spot have prompted calls for increased road safety measures and stricter vehicle maintenance checks.

Police has since urged all motorists to ensure that their vehicles are in good mechanical condition before embarking on any journey to prevent such accidents.

The police emphasised the importance of regular vehicle checks and adherence to traffic regulations to ensure the safety of all road users.
