Prosecution alleges that Lugoloobi, who is also the Member Parliament (MP) for Ntenjeru North constituency in Kayunga district, wrongly obtained 700 pre-painted iron sheets meant for Karamoja sub-region.

The Anti-Corruption Court made a decision to make a final decision on Lugoloobi’s bail hearing on the 20th of April.

Lugoloobi, who is accused of misappropriating iron sheets meant for Karamoja sub-region, was arrested on Friday, April 14 2023 and held at the Kira Road Police

Lugoloobi is among the government officials who received iron sheets meant for Karamoja sub-region.

About one month ago, New Vision reported that he had used the iron sheets to roof his piggery farm in his constituency in Kayunga district. Lugoloobi however denied the allegations saying that the piggery farm he had roofed was a poverty alleviation project he had started to help people in his constituency.

His arrest comes at the backdrop of directives issued by President Museveni who called upon all line agencies to take action.

Museveni also gave a directive indicating that all ministers who took the iron sheets should pay for them in monetary form, while those found guilty of using them for personal gain be arrested.

Lugoloobi’s arrest also comes eight days after Karamoja Affairs Minister Mary Goretti Kitutu was arrested and charged by the Anti-Corruption Court on two accounts which include; causing loss of public property and conspiracy to defraud.

Kitutu was arrested alongside her brother Michael Naboya Kitutu.

The two were released on Friday, 14 April following a ruling by the Anti-Corruption Court that they be granted bail.
