According to Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, Defence Public Information Officer (DPIO), the changes are occasioned by the official launch of the Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) Establishment 2021.
The Establishment was launched by President Yoweri Museveni on February 17.
"Following the official launch of the Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) Establishment 2021 by His Excellency the President of Uganda and Commander-in-Chief on February 17 2024," Gen. Kulayigye said in an April 8 statement, "the nomenclatures of some of the Offices at the UPDF Headquarters have changed."
He said that the adoption and use of new titles follow the degazetting of the old and gazetting of the new offices as per the UPDF Establishment 2021.
"We wish to inform the public that new titles have officially been adopted and will be used in naming the offices of the UPDF, effective 5 April 2024," he said.
Some of the new office titles are:
- Chief of Joint Staff (CJS) formerly Joint Chief of Staff (JCOS)
- Joint Staff Human Resource Management (JS-HRM) formerly Chief of Personnel and Administration (CPA)
- Defence Intelligence and Security (DIS) formerly Chief of Military Intelligence (CMI)
- Joint Staff Logistics (JS-LOG) formerly Chief of Logistics and Engineering (CLE)
- Joint Staff Training and Doctrine (JS-TRADOC) formerly Chief of Training and Recruitment (CTR)
- Defence Public Information Officer (DPIO) formerly Defence Spokesperson (DSP) under the Department of Defence Public Information (DDPIO).
According to Gen. Kulayigye, more titles may be explained by the Defence Public Information Officer (DPIO) as and when required by the general public.
