Tesla CEO Elon Musk claimed in a tweet Monday that the company's Cybertruck pickup could "float for a while" in response to a question about its fording capabilities.
"Have you thought about CT's wading depth? I hunt and fish and sometimes need to cross streams. Can I do it without damaging the truck?" Twitter user batflyer asked.
"Yes. It will even float for a while," Musk replied, without offering additional detail about how or for what length of time the truck might float.

This isn't the first time Musk has used Twitter to make claims about obscure features supposedly boasted by Tesla's vehicles, or even about their ability to navigate water.
"We *def* don't recommended this, but Model S floats well enough to turn it into a boat for short periods of time. Thrust via wheel rotation," Musk tweeted in 2016 , referencing the car's sealed battery pack, after Electrek reported that one drove through a flooded tunnel .
In 2018, Musk suggested that the new Tesla Roadster model would have an option for rocket engines that would "Maybe they will even allow a Tesla to fly." However, Jalopnik reported that Musk's comments about Teslas being able to "fly" appeared to be a bit overstated , after Musk doubled down on the claim in January 2019.
Tesla unveiled its futuristic, all-electric Cybertruck last November to mixed reactions while boasting a range of unique features , from a 500-mile maximum range with its largest motor equipped to "adaptive air suspension" that raises and lowers the Cybertruck's suspension by four inches for easier access to a camper addition .
CNET also noted that Musk has been positioning the Cybertruck as an off-road heavyweight , tweeting that it "needs to kick butt in Baja," the off-road race that's intended to push vehicles to their limits.

While the Cybertruck beats out other electric pickups currently on the market in many categories, it's unclear whether the truck will actually be able to float. Tesla didn't respond to a request for comment.
