CCBU distributors enhance beverage accessibility across Uganda

A robust network of Official Coca-Cola Distributors (OCCDs) is playing a pivotal role in ensuring Coca-Cola products reach every corner of Uganda efficiently. Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda (CCBU), a subsidiary of Coca-Cola Beverages Africa, has developed an innovative distribution system that guarantees the consistent delivery of quality products across the five geographical territories: Kampala, Central, North, East, and South.

Research conducted by CCBU also assists OCCDs in increasing sales by providing them with tools to stay competitive, such as customized promotions for specific areas.

"We understand that our success is linked to the success of our customers. That's why we've established a robust OCCD system, ensuring efficient distribution and exceptional customer service throughout Uganda," stated Melkamu Abebe, General Manager at CCBU.

The OCCD system begins with a meticulous selection process, as explained by Micheal Kaziro, the Route-To-Market specialist at CCBU. Individuals aspiring to become OCCDs are evaluated based on their ambition, resources such as trucks and warehouses, mobile phones, and a dedicated workforce. Once verified and appointed, these distributors are integrated into CCBU’s user-friendly online system, which tracks sales, maintains detailed records, and facilitates precise delivery planning.

This sophisticated system also provides real-time data on customer details and order statuses, including information on out-of-stock products.

"The system has a call list of all OCCDs’ deliveries in specific areas. This eases their product dispatch process and enables them to talk to customers at all times during the distribution process," Kaziro highlighted.

Beyond record-keeping, the system allows for daily performance tracking, helping the sales and marketing team identify areas where OCCDs might need additional support. This data-driven approach ensures swift resolution of challenges, maintaining the smooth operation of the distribution network.

Maintaining optimal beverage temperature is crucial in some areas, and CCBU supports OCCDs by providing coolers to customers. This initiative ensures retailers can offer refreshingly cold drinks throughout the day, boosting their sales.

"CCBU has distributed over 47,000 coolers countrywide and continues to distribute more coolers on a regular basis. This is one of a number of initiatives to help our OCCDs sell more," Kaziro added.

CCBU’s sales team undergoes rigorous training in stock management, customer service, and product knowledge. This expertise is passed on to OCCDs, empowering them to deliver exceptional service to customers, ensuring CCBU's quality products are available to consumers.

Research conducted by CCBU also assists OCCDs in increasing sales by providing them with tools to stay competitive, such as customized promotions for specific areas.

"By optimizing our network," Kaziro noted, "we aim to achieve greater efficiency, boost sales volumes, and ensure exceptional customer service throughout Uganda."

The OCCD system not only ensures the efficient delivery of beverages but also empowers local businesses and contributes to the success of countless Ugandans. With continued investment in technology, training, and network optimization, CCBU and its OCCD partners are poised for a future of shared opportunities.
