"Uganda Coffee is in high demand in global coffee markets for its quality," stated the UCDA.
Europe remains Uganda's largest export market, followed by Asia, North America, and Africa. The UCDA attributed the higher yields and improved coffee quality to effective regulation and support for farmers.
This regulatory framework has resulted in farmers earning the highest prices seen in 30 years, with the UCDA generating revenue of UGX 822 billion in FY 2023/24.
Approximately 1.7 million households in Uganda depend on coffee production, making it a critical commodity for the country's economic development. The UCDA's focus on enhancing coffee quality and production processes has not only increased earnings but also strengthened Uganda's position in the global coffee market.
Looking ahead, the UCDA is optimistic about the future of Uganda's coffee industry. With the current growth trajectory, the Coffee Roadmap target of producing 20 million 60 kg bags by 2030 appears achievable.
The roadmap, signed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in 2017, aims for foreign exchange earnings of $1.5 billion annually from these 20 million bags.
