The intelligence-led anti-smuggling operation, which spanned from September 9 to 10, 2024, highlighted the effectiveness of strategic surveillance.

An informant tipped off URA’s Team One Enforcement about an uncustomed consignment en route from Nyanza. Acting swiftly, customs officials boarded the ferry from Tanzania, catching the smugglers by surprise.

Under the direction of URA’s water marshals, the vessel was escorted to port, where the smuggled goods were seized and transported to Nakawa Headquarters for verification.

The haul included motor vehicle parts, household items, food products, and cosmetics. Nine consignments linked to nine suspects are now securely stored in the Customs warehouse. This successful operation underscores the vital role of intelligence in tackling smuggling and recovering lost revenue for Uganda.
