These took part in a range of tournament sports including football, netball, volleyball, tug of war, and sac race among others.

The annual gala is organised by the Insurence Training College (ITC) in partnership with the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) and the Uganda Insurers Association (UIA)

Mr Saul Seremba, the ITC Principal said the event is intended to stimulate unity in diversity in the insurance industry.

We want to bring unity among the competing companies. We believe that such initiatives bring about cohesion in the industry which will take us to the next level,” he said.

“Although there are hundreds of people from different companies, here we are brothers and sisters.”

Alhajj Ibrahim Kaddunabbi Lubega, the Managing Director of the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) also emphasised the uniting role that the sports gala has played in the insurance industry for the past eight years.

We discourage (industry) players from doing business like they are dying the next day. We are all one and we should work together,” he said

Kaddunabbi also noted that the gala is intended to encourage Ugandans to live healthy lives.

It also gives us an opportunity to interact out of office with the younger generation of players in the industry,” he added.

Overall, the IRA boss expressed pleasure over the rate at which insurance is growing in Uganda, noting that this year, the uptake is expected to exceed the annual average growth of 18%.

This, he said is a result of the work that the Authority has done to whip the companies to be more trustworthy, but also the heightened sensitisation of the masses about insurance.

Some of the big winners included UAEVILLA who took the football and tug-of-war trophies, Prudential Uganda who won in netball and volleyball and ICEA who were champions in Athletics.
