Afrigo Band's extraordinary journey: 48 years of musical resonance and unity

In the heart of Uganda's entertainment industry, an iconic name stands tall, ready to celebrate an extraordinary milestone of 48 years in the music scene. Afrigo Band, a legendary musical group, is all set to captivate audiences with their "Legends of Sound Concert," a night of soulful melodies and infectious rhythms that have left an indelible mark both locally and internationally.

As the band gears up for this momentous event at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel Gardens on Saturday, August 5, 2023 they are set to share the stage with the renowned Lingala artiste, Awilo Longomba from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

For Moses Matovu, the band leader and one of the founding members, this concert holds immense significance.

"It's an honor to celebrate 48 years of making music with Afrigo Band. The journey has been incredible, and we can't wait to share all the magic with our fans, along with our friend Awilo," he expressed with heartfelt enthusiasm.

Beyond being a musical group, Afrigo Band is a close-knit family, as emphasised by Joanita Kawalya, who shared, "We've been through ups and downs together, and the bond we share is unbreakable. This concert will be a celebration of unity and talent."

The concert will also be a testament to the band's role in providing opportunities for aspiring artistes.

"Afrigo Band opened doors for me as a young girl from the village. Today, I've traveled the world, thanks to this incredible band. It's an honor to be part of this milestone celebration." Rachael Magoola, a Member of Parliament who joined Afrigo Band in 1989, reminisces about her inspiring journey.

The Legends of Sound Concert promises a fusion of Techno-Soukous, with Afrigo Band and Awilo Longomba collaborating for a unique and electrifying experience.

Awilo expressed his excitement, "It is a big challenge, but we're excited to take it on. Uganda, get ready for an electrifying experience!"

Together, they share a passion for promoting Uganda's vibrant music and cultural diversity, reinforcing the significance of preserving and celebrating the country's rich musical heritage.
