‘Jackie brought us back together’ - Blu 3 recount tense reconciliatory meeting

For the most time that the Blu 3 trio spent apart over the past decade, reconciliation seemed a far cry.

Blu 3 sat down this week for an interview with Juliana Kanyomozi

The ladies, Cindy Sanyu, Jackie Chandiru and Lillian Mbabazi had become so estranged that they couldn't imagine being together in the same room.

Their friends and managers had made attempts to bring them back together with no success. Twice, the ladies tried to meet up for talks but nothing came of it.

Their disdain for each was perhaps most apparent last year, during Cindy’s historic music battle with Sheebah Karungi, when Lillian took the side of the latter.

Today, the ladies are back together; in studio and rehearsals, preparing for their reunion concert, which is less than 3 weeks away.

In a heart-to-heart interview with Juliana Kanyomozi, the trio opened up about how they managed to put their differences behind them and pull off one of the most iconic comebacks in Uganda’s music industry.

Cindy says it was all thanks to their willingness and openness to forgiveness.

It is easy to forgive someone when you are not with them until they are there with you,” she said.

What we did differently this time was that we called each other personally, not having to go through the managers.”

Their reunion came about following a tense meeting where they got to sit together for the first time since their break up.

The meeting was arranged by Jackie, who herself had just emerged from severe depression and drug addiction.

She was helped by one Larry Martin Mukooza, a fashion designer and proprietor of Larry Casual, to set up the meeting.

We sat in the room and we quarreled, we cried tears, we revisited the pain all over again,” Cindy recounted.

In the meeting, we realised that it had been a misunderstanding amongst us. At times, things get lost in the media, but when we sat together, we started realising that we misunderstood each other in some cases.”

Lillian on the other hand blames their bad blood on their past.

We were pushed into the media and the world of entertainment at such a young age. We also did not know each other that much. I believe that all we went through has strengthened us and every day we try to be better,” she said

The Blu 3’s upcoming reunion concert dubbed “Legends of Sound” is set to take place on the 22nd of June 2024 at Kampala Sheraton Gardens.
