According to Nampiima, the accident happened along the Kampala-Entebbe Express Highway.
Galaxy FM Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pius Kamugisha died in a car crash on Saturday at 10pm, Faridah Nampiima, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Traffic Directorate said in a statement on Sunday morning.
Kamugisha's car, a black Mercedez Benz, collided with a Toyota Hilux that was being driven by Lt Col Ephraim Byaruhanga, who is attached to the First Division of Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) in Kakiri Military Barracks in Wakiso district.
"The territorial traffic police at Kajjansi have registered a fatal accident at Nakigala along the Entebbe Kampala Express highway. The accident happened on 22.10.2022 at around 2200/C," reads the statement.
"The accident involved motor vehicle registration number UG 0382D (Toyota Hilux) that was being driven by LT Col Byaruhabga Ephraim *I.O* *1st* *Div* *Kakiri* and motor vehicle registration number UBK 320P Benz black driven by Kamugisha Pius, the C.E O of Galaxy FM."
According to the statement, the drivers were driving while drunk.
"The cause of the accident has been attributed to reckless driving and drunk driving (as some Bottles of Alcohol were recovered from the vehicle of the deceased). The body of the deceased was conveyed to Mulago mortuary."
Police said more inquiries are ongoing.
Kamugisha, known by many as Uncle Pius, or Pio, founded Galaxy FM with Innocent Nahabwe and Robert Busingye.
Pius Kamugisha hails from Ibanda district and that’s where he will be laid to rest.
