It is one that she sought after, fought for and jealousy protected in order to redeem herself from crushing shame and guilt, following the death of her childhood friend.
Marcah, real names, Caroline Namirembe describes her connection to Kats as “beyond normal.”
“It is spiritual; it is soul to soul; we got to a point where I would just look at him and know he is not fine when he is actually laughing with his friends. I would walk up to him, take him to the side and tell him he's not fine and he’d just break down and cry, and then we would talk about it,” she told Ruth Kalibbala
For a long spell, the two were rumored to be dating, as they became more and more inseparable at different hangout places.
Marcah however, this week gave an account of how she came to be so close with Kats even though they were both seeing other people.
At the time Kats made public his HIV status in 2019, Marcah says she’s just lost a dear friend to the virus.
This person, whom she describes as her best friend, had battled sickle cell disease through his whole childhood. But one day as an adult, he tested positive for HIV.
Marcah and his other friends, despite being initially overcome by shock; stood by him, encouraged him and cared for him.
However, when she got a job at NTV, her schedule became tighter and she eventually lost touch with her friend and even stopped picking his calls.
For months, she became so inaccessible to him that he resorted to sending her messages on Facebook Messenger.
She only realized her mistake when it was too late. Her best friend had passed on.
Suffocating from pain, guilt and shame, Marcah says, she prayed to God to give her another chance to be there for a sick friend, and it was only weeks later that Kats came along.
At the time she and Kats were not close. But when he announced his HIV results, she says, she contacted his friend (Douglas) Lwanga and othersto try and get closer to him.
“The friends told me I wouldn't be able to handle him because he was emotionally broken, but I was determined to get to him. I made sure every time he had a night out I'd be there. He loves talking, so I’d just sit with him and listen to him the whole time. I did this for about 5 months.
Last year, MC Kats credited his survival and mental health on Marcah, who, he said helped him back on his feet and regain his momentum.
Marcah reemphasized in the interview that she and Kats were never in a romantic relationship. At the time she was hanging out with him, she says she was seeing another man, who even attended a famous birthday party that Kats threw for her.
