Mary Flavia Kubula Namulindwa may have left a sweet job at Vision Group for menial work in the U.S., but the latter came with more cash.

According to Namulindwa, her first job in the U.S. involved cleaning old people. While excruciating, she said she was excited her first pay cheque indicated "$840", or about Shs3 million.

This was earned in just "two weeks of work" and she would work for a few hours.

Flavia Namulindwa shared this while talking to Kaiyz Kawalya whom she hosted on her YouTube channel Diaspora Connect Ug.

Before leaving for the U.S., she was working as a presenter at Bukedde TV.

Rumours about her leaving the station started swirling in 2017 after she declared her political ambitions.

She showed interest in running as Gomba Woman Member of Parliament in the 2021 general elections. However, she wanted to run under the National Unity Platform yet she worked with Vision Group, which is owned by the government.

She maintains that she willingly left the station, but some of her friends have said she was forced to leave because of her links to NUP, which is led by Bobi Wine.

Namulindwa said that when she was quitting she sent a resignation letter to Moses Kasasa, the then content manager at Bukedde TV, and told him that because of Covid lockdowns she wasn't able to return from the U.S.

When Flavia Namulindwa left Uganda, she was hosted by the socialite Nalongo Sheilah Don Zella, real name Sheila Nadete. They have been friends for close to two decades.

She said the job of taking care of old people was so tough that she thought about quitting almost every day.

However, her friends like Carol Nampijja and Emma Mugabo encouraged her to persevere.

"I'm super proud... Because now I have a story to tell," she told Kaiyz Kawalya.

She said she did it for about five months and left because she had to give birth.

Namulindwa said she plans to return to Uganda in 2024.
