Introducing Kanyomozi to my family was a bit scary - Lucky Mbabazi

"To be very honest with you, my husband is a few years younger than me. Not so many... two and a half years, and when he was coming to me the first time to tell me that he liked me, because we were friends, I had issues with that... and I was worried, because for me mentally I knew... a woman is supposed to be younger than a guy," Mbabazi said during a conversation with Mariam Babu on her YouTube channel Kachai With Lucky.

"I wanted a man who was older than me... but it's just that I had tried ones that were of my age and older and they all were effed up," she went on.

"So, when he came to me... my first response was like, you know I'm older than you, right?... I realised later on, because he was already my friend... that he was actually very, very firm and he knew what he wanted and he was very intentional... and then I told him, if you just wanna play, we can play, you know... but he was like, no, no, I want the serious deal... Even introducing him to my family and friends, I was a bit scared... I'm still your senior whether you like it or not... it became an issue until we actually got married and started living together and now... I don't feel anything."

Babu's family also showed concern with the age of her boyfriend. She said she is seven to eight years older than him and he was a single dad when they met.

"But I am telling them, you know what... this is my decision. At the end of the day, it is your decision," she said, continuing to explain what she likes about modern young men.

"These guys are talking firmness [sic] these days. They tell you this is what they want because that's what we are looking for... If you want to play, we can play."

Mariam Babu still believes there is nothing wrong with a woman dating a man her junior.

"It is not wrong, to be honest with you, I have done it, I have been there, and I'm not ashamed of it," she said.

According to her, the trend of women dating men younger than them is growing because sometimes it is hard to find responsible men in your age group.

"You find that people who are our agemates... we believe are the stage where they will be compatible with us... brianwise, they are still immature... So, I think that's why we are going the other side... but also the younger guys when they come to you, they actually tell you, you know what? younger girls, they are not... working for us," she claimed.

Both Babu and Mbabazi know there are challenges that come with dating younger men.

"They couldn't see him as a man," Babu said, speaking of what would happen when she would go out with her boyfriend.

"There is always that thing that brings the insecurities because of the judgement. They are not firm when it comes to the public."

Mbabazi, 41, is concerned about being called a sugar mummy.

"My worry is that people will call you sugar mummy... laughs... There is a time I read something and people were like, you are a sugar mummy to your husband... the first thing that will roll in their minds, especially here in Uganda, they are going to think that he has come to you because of money," she said.

"I'll say it confidently; I'm a good looking woman, I have my own, I have my career... I am the deal... so, what would make anyone think that the only reason a younger guy would come to you because of the money? What money!"

Some female celebrities that have dated younger men include Zari Hassan, Gabrielle Union, Kim Kardashian and Britney Spears.
