During his recent appearance at Galaxy F.M., Kabako, real name Yusufu Ssenabulya was asked to comment on the committee Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF).
Sheebah Karungi, who is Kabako's best friend, is the first vice president of the Federation, coming second only to Eddy Kenzo, who is the president.
During the interview, D.J. Nimrod asked Kabako him: What do you have to say about the committee?
Kabako responded: About the committee, I wasn't there [when it was being formed]. I know nothing about it. I know Sheebah as a friend, but it's hard for me to call her [vice president] because I wasn't there... She is my true friend. [Sheebah Karungi considers Kabako, King Saha and Anne Kansiime as her best friends in the music industry.]
During the interview, Nimrod also asked Kabako to directly tell Sheebah that she betrayed him.
Kabaka avoided the question.
Kabako said he learnt about the Federation through Gravity Omutujju. Omutujju has joined the association and he said he was invited by Eddy Kenzo.
The Federation, whose main goal appears to be helping musicians earn from their music royalties, has created a divide within the industry.
Some believe it won't yield much because government is trying to bring musicians together to use them for political initiatives, while others are optimistic.
The Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) leaders recently met with their counterparts in the Uganda Performing Rights Society (UPRS).
The Society was formed in 1985 by authors to advance the cause of copyright administration in Uganda.
After the meeting, Eddy Kenzo, who is the Federation's president, said that they discussed "crucial issues related to royalties for our fellow artists."
He said the Federation is committed to acquiring cutting-edge broadcast monitoring technology to accurately track music usage and compensate musicians fairly.
That It is also committed establishing transparent criteria for distributing royalties, ensuring every artist receives their rightful share.
Kenzo also noted that they want to collaborate to boost the collection of royalties, find new revenue streams, and implement efficient mechanisms.
