Meet Angella Summer, the internet star ‘bossing’ TikTok, YouTube

Some of Namiburu's videos on TikTok have racked up over 41 million views.

On YouTube, where she has 727k subscribers, only two public figures beat her, and that is Eddy Kenzo, who has 2.23 million subscribers, and Anne Kansiime, who has 1.33m.

The other channels on top of her are Masaka Kids Afrakana with 3.44m and Ug Extra Comedy with 1.45m.

Born on June 3, 1995, according to publicly available information, Namubiru is one of the most celebrated internet personalities in the country.

In 2022, she was announced as the winner of the People’s Choice Awards under the category of African Social Star.

She competed with top African stars, namely: Ama Qamata (South African actress), Dr Shauwn Mkhize (a South African socialite, businesswoman, philanthropist and television personality), Juddy da Conceição (Angolan actress, businesswoman) and Khanyi Mbau (South African actress, musician, television presenter and socialite).

Others are Liquorose (Nigerian choreographer, creative dance-crafts lady, entertainer, model and former Big Brother Nigeria housemate), Sphokuhle (South African digital creator and Tik Tok star), and Swanky Jerry (Nigerian celebrity fashion stylist).

The People’s Choice Awards is an American awards show that recognises people in the entertainment world, looking at movies, TV, music and pop culture.

The awards have been held annually since 1975.

Angella Summer Namubiru, who is also a model and musician, is the co-founder of Blacare, an organization that is both a physical and virtual village that works with children and women on social issues.

She has said she wants to use social media tools to change how Africans are viewed globally.

She also used to sing under a dancing and singing group called City Rock Entertainment, where TV presenter Remmah Nakitto, alias Precious Remmie, also once belonged.

The internet personality, who joined TikTok in 2019, said that her music career hit a snag during Covid and she relocated to the village where started doing handicrafts which have benefitted from blowing up on the internet. She started making videos while in the village. Nambiru is also a mother of a daughter.
