Meet the rich kids in Uganda's entertainment industry

Uganda has one of the most vibrant entertainment sectors in the region, which partly explains why it has attracted participation from people from all walks of life, including kids from prominent families.

Below are some of the rich kids that are involved in or have played a role in the entertainment industry.

Natasha Museveni

Lynette Nyinancwende Kainembabazi, popularly known as Natasha Karugire Museveni, needs no introduction: she is the daughter of President Yoweri Museveni.

The president's daughter, commonly known as Natasha, is the co-founder of a film production company called Isaiah60 Productions.

The most popular product of Isaiah60 is 27 Guns, a biopic centered around the Bush War championed by her father. The war started in 1980 and ended in 1986.

The film was first shown to the public at Metroplex Cinema, Naalya in Kampala on September 2, 2018. The premiere was graced by President Museveni himself; his wife, Janet, and other liberation struggle heroes like Gen. Elly Tumwine and Gen. Jim Muhwezi.

Natasha, who studied Fashion Design and Marketing at American College in London after completing her A-level at Mt. St. Mary’s College Namagunga, started a fashion brand called House of Kaine (from Kainembabazi) when she returned to Kampala in 1998. It was later renamed to J&Kainembabazi.

She also recently released a music album curated by her organisation named the Heritage Foundation.

Esteeri Mugulwa

Esteeri Mugulwa is the daughter of the Chief Coordination of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), Gen. Caleb Akandwanaho, alias Salim Saleh.

Saleh is President Yoweri Museveni's brother, which makes Mugulwa Natasha's cousin.

Mugulwa is the co-founder of Isaiah60 Productions.

Cynthia Tumwine

Cynthia Tumwine is the daughter of the late Gen. Elly Tumwine.

Gen. Tumwine passed last year and he served Uganda in different capacities, including participating in the aforementioned bush war.

Cynthia Tumwine, who also goes by The Ninja C, is a songwriter, singer and has also been a radio host, working with XFM and Radio City.

The self-styled Ninjaness currently operates a bar named The Villa and two restaurants named The Maze and The Patio.

Nadia Mbire

Nadia Kabahiita Matovu, is the daughter of Charles Mbire, the chairman Board of Directors at MTN Uganda.

The self-styled Uganda's Kim Kardashian is a content creator and was in 2022 named among Meta’s (formerly Facebook) Creators of Tomorrow.

The campaign is aimed at celebrating emerging talents from around the world who are inspiring a new movement of creative content online.

Bebe Cool

Musician Moses Ssali, popularly known as Bebe Cool, is the son of Jaberi Bidandi Ssali, former Minister for Local Government (1989 - 2004) and an unsuccessful candidate in the 2011 presidential elections.

Bebe Cool already has much about him on Google.

Mark Ruranga

Ruranga, who also calls himself The Reckless Moon Man, is the son of Allen Kagina, the executive director of the Uganda National Roads Authority and former Commissioner General of the Uganda Revenue Authority.

He is a content creator and also hosts events.

Navio

Rapper Daniel Lubwama Kigozi, better known as Navio, is the son of Maggie Kigozi, now a consultant with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and a former executive director of the Uganda Investment Authority.

His father, the late Daniel Serwano Kigozi, served as minister of industry and later minister of works under Museveni's government. He also worked as a chief engineer at the East African Breweries.

Rajiv

Rajiv Ruparelia is the managing director of the Ruparelia Group, founded by his father, Sudhir Ruparelia, one of the wealthiest men in the country.

The group has invested heavily in various sectors, including media as owner of Sanyu FM. The Royal Ascot Goat Races have been held at their hotel, Speke Resort on the shores of Lake Victoria, since 1993. They were last held in 2019 and they haven't been hosted since Covid broke out in the country.

Gloria Wavamuno

Gloria Wavamunno is the daughter of Gordon Wavamunno, a wealthy businessman behind one of Uganda’s legendary brands, Spear Motors Limited -- the official distributor of notable automobiles in Mercedes Benz, Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler, et cetera.

Gloria, who studied fashion design and marketing at the American Intercontinental University in London, is the founder of Kampala Fashion Week, Uganda’s preeminent fashion event.

The gala, which was started to promote Ugandan fashion designers to a large global market, has since been featured in international publications like Vogue Italy, Arise Magazine, Flare and African Woman Magazine.

Angella Katatumba

Musician Angella Franklin Keihongani Katatumba is the daughter of the late Prof. Boney Mwebesa Katatumba, the former honorary consul of Pakistan in Uganda. Her father owned various properties, including hotels and schools.

Cedric Babu

Cedric Babu is the chief executive officer at Kinetic Events Management, a sports and entertainment event management company.

His father, Edward Francis Babu, is a former minister and Member of Parliament. His mother, Olive Zaitun Kigongo, is a businesswoman and chief executive officer of the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Yvonne Koreta

Yvonne Mbabazi Koreta Tindimwebwa is the daughter of Gen. Ivan Koreta, who has represented Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) in parliament, served as the deputy chief of defence forces, and as the chairman of the General Court Martial.

Yvonne has worked on radio -- Next Radio, Radio One, Power FM, XFM and Sanyu FM, and she is also into events management, according to her LinkedIn profile.
