Museveni reveals how he met Maurice Mugisha’s wife Irene Birungi

Irene Birungi, the wife of Maurice Mugisha, the deputy managing director of Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC), launched her book titled 'The CEO in You' on Friday.

President Yoweri Museveni was the guest honour at the book launch and he shared some details about she was introduced to him.

Museveni said he first met Irene Birungi Mugisha when she was still a journalist with the now-defunct WBS TV.

Mugisha would eventually work with the State House. She is currently a private secretary in the Office of the President.

President Museveni credited her for starting the CEO Forum through which he meets leaders in the business community.

"I was introduced to Irene Birungi Mugisha in 2003 when she was a young journalist doing business reporting for WBS & her interest in the subject has grown, to inception of the CEO Forum where she organises a periodic interface between myself and business leaders in the country," Museveni tweeted after the book launch.

"These engagements are important to us in order to synthesize solutions to the issues of society. Therefore, it was my joy, on behalf of Mama Janet and I, to launch her book titled 'The CEO in You'."

He inaugurated the Forum in 2021.

The Presidential CEO Forum is a direct and adequate link between the private sector leadership, CEOs from Corporate institutions, and government executives to contribute to the National Development Agenda.

Meanwhile, in 'The CEO in You', Irene Birungi Mugisha provides the tools and insights one needs to become a changemaker.

It also provides useful knowledge for those that are seeking personal development that will impact those around them.

After WBS, Birungi joined UBC where she served as producer and editor. She was promoted to the station's manager in October 201 and left in 2013 to join CNBC Africa as the head of editorial and television producer for their Uganda and Rwanda bureaus.

She presented a popular show called Doing Business in Rwanda.

Irene Birungi, who holds an MBA from Amity University Gurgaon, is the founder of All Round Consult Uganda, a PR and media agency and director of communications, marketing and membership development at the Federation of Uganda Employers.
