Nkwacho Fest still on; Alien in talks with Buganda Kingdom on venue

Alien Skin has announced that his highly-billed Nkwacho festival will go on as planned but on a different date and venue.

Alien Skin and Abitex

Skin shocked fans this week when he communicated that he was putting the concert on hold following misunderstandings with promoter Abby Musinguzi, alias Abitex.

The concert meant to celebrate khat, a popular recreational drug known locally as Mairungi or Nkwacho in the projects, was supposed to take place on August 27, at Forest Park Buloba.

The Fangone Forest boss, however, took to social media to announce this week that he was “canceling” the show.

I have decided to put back my Nkwacho festival on loading after the so-called talented Promoters tried to steal from me. Nkwacho festival canceled,” he posted on his social media platforms on Friday.

It was still unclear what misunderstandings came up between him and Abitex.

But this weekend, the ‘Binyuma Bitya’ singer announced that the festival will take place, once a bigger venue is secured.

Skin currently has eyes on Lubiri, in Mengo; a 260-acre lash green compound that houses the palace of the Kabaka of Buganda.

He says he’s trying to get in touch with the Kingdom Premier, Charles Peter Mayiga to secure the venue.

We need a bigger space, and I am in trying to get in touch with the (Premier) to see if they can give us Lubiri because it is big enough for us. I am going to ask the Katikiro,” the singer told Galaxy TV.

Asked whether the Kingdom wouldn't have issues hosting a show that promotes a recreational drug, Skin said he wasn't worried about this.

I am sure he (Mayiga) knows about Nkwacho. He’s older than me, it is not new. He must know that is a cash crop more priced even than coffee,” he said.

Skin recently hinted at the possibility of retiring from music by the end of this year.
