Renowned human rights activist and politician Ingrid Turinawe was among the many Ugandans who took to social media to commend Phiona Nyamutoro, after news broke that she hosted her fiancé’s ex-partner over the weekend and threw a birthday party for her stepdaughter.

The State Minister for Minerals, on Sunday, September 29, hosted a birthday celebration for Maya, the 13-year-old daughter of singer Eddy Kenzo and Tracy Nabatanzi. The gathering was marked by unity, with Rema Namakula—Kenzo’s former partner, with whom he shares another child—also in attendance, accompanied by her husband, Dr. Hamza Ssebunya.

Before the party, the minister penned a touching birthday message to Maya. Her affectionate tribute showcased her close bond with Maya, further affirming her beloved role as a stepmother.
Nyamutoro reminisced about the special bond they have shared since 2020, when Maya was just 9 years old.
She wrote: “It feels like just yesterday when you were a 9-year-old insisting that we rock the same hairstyle during holidays, to a whole teenager today with her own fad. I never imagined I would find a kindred spirit in a child! Forever blessed and grateful to have you as an amazing big sister and my first firefighter. May life to you be as graceful as you are. Interestingly, while Eddy Kenzo and Dr. Hamza Sebunya have been spotted in public before, it’s rare for Kenzo and Rema to be seen together since their highly publicised breakup. This is also the first time that both couples have been seen sharing photos while spending time together publicly.
