Lutaya clarified that he works hard to make a living, stating, "I hustle like a man to survive."
Shakib Lutaya has dismissed the widespread belief that his wife, Zari Hassan, is financially supporting him.

He further revealed that Zari is too frugal to give money to a man and that the only time she gave him cash was during a trip to Tanzania, where she earned around $40,000 (approximately Shs150 million) and handed him just $2,000 (about Shs7.4 million).
While Lutaya did not disclose the purpose of their trip to Tanzania, their most recent known visit was in February when Zari was invited to attend a club event.
Lutaya also emphasised that his relationship with Zari is not motivated by her children, noting that she is already of a certain age. He insisted that his love for her was the sole reason for their relationship.
He remarked, "The only thing I've gained from that woman is fame," adding that Zari's actions often disregard his mental well-being and the impact on how he views their relationship.
He criticised Zari for not wanting him to do the same things she does, putting him in situations where he has no choice.
Lutaya urged Zari to take a lesson from singer Rema Namakula, who, despite having a child with the popular artist Eddy Kenzo, has never publicly embarrassed her current partner, Dr. Hamza Sebunya. Since beginning her relationship with Dr. Sebunya, Namakula has avoided any public interactions with Kenzo and refrains from mentioning him, except when absolutely necessary during interviews, where she expertly navigates such questions.
