Tanzania show that opened the door for Mya, launched Cindy’s fate at Blu*3

Jackie Chandiru and Lilian Mbabazi gave Steve Jean a condition that made firing Cindy from Blu*3 inevitable.

Let’s start from the beginning.

The firing of Cindy was occasioned by her vacation in Spain that Mbabazi and Chandiru wanted to cut short and she refused.

The trio had worked for two years without a break and after holding a concert they were given a one-month break from work.

Two weeks into the holiday, Jackie Chandiru and Lilian Mbabazi wanted to resume work, but Cindy Sanyu said she needed to first complete her trip.

They gave an ultimatum but she was unyielding.

However, before the vacation, Blu*3 had been booked to perform in Tanzania and Cindy was sick at the time. Her colleagues suggested that Mya Baganda who was then their dancer take her place for that show.

Cindy agreed and even lent her clothes, as they wore the same size. Mya hadn’t sung with them before, so he would just lip-sync during the show.

"We then taught her choreography and everything,” said Cindy while speaking to SB4 Media. “The event was live, so all she had to do was hold a microphone and pretend she was singing."

Mya went and the event was successful. This prepared her for her next step in life.

Meanwhile, while in Spain, Cindy thought they would understand and give her time.

But they told her that they won't give her the time.

Cindy was confident that she would find her space since it wasn't them they hired her. They had signed a contract that she thought would protect her.

Blu*3 was founded by Steve Jean, the legendary producer who has kickstarted the careers of multiple household names and owner of Fenon Records.

Cindy was shocked when she opened the internet and found that Mya had been unveiled as her replacement.

"I felt so bad," said Cindy, adding that she started thinking long and hard about leaving Kampala for village life again. Doors to the music industry opened after participating in a singing competition called Real Stars in 2005. In a short period, she would move from Mbale to the city.

“I was a village kid. I had come to the city to be with Blu*3... My dream of a better life, everything was centered around Blu*3... this is where I'm going to make my mark in the world. Build a house for my mother... change the situation of my family," she said.

She said when she saw the unveiling of Mya, her hopes of a better life started ebbing.

At the time Fenon had major sway in the East African entertainment industry so leaving its management meant chances of succeeding were minimal.

But a part of her convinced her that she would find her spot since she was better than Mya all around.

When she arrived at Entebbe Airport, she called Steve Jean for a meeting about the issue.

When Jean spoke to Lilian Mbabazi and Jackie Chandiru, they told him that they were ready to quit if Cindy returned.
