TikTok has been a very big deal - GenerationsOfficial

GenerationsOfficial has been a phenomenal hit on TikTok. But what is the story behind her undoubted social media prominence?

GenerationsOfficial

“I joined TikTok last year in May, 2023. However I had been following up on what was going on, on social media, for quite some time. I needed to research about social media, how people behave, how to handle criticism, what kind of content I could bring to the table, how helpful my content would be because, all in all, I really wanted to create something that would impact Ugandans positively,” she reveals.

“I had this particular audience that I targeted right from when I came in and that was teenagers, adults between 18 and 25, 40, 80 whatever…so my content actually cuts across all the ages. As I went on, I realized that I needed to do content for almost everyone and that is why from the beginning I never limited myself to any particular type of content, for example me if I were to talk about politics, love, etc. exclusively .”

After mapping out what she hoped her social media journey would be, she made a plan.

“I needed to talk about all aspects of life: education, politics, love, marriage, relationships, business and so much more. Anything, bring it on the table. I have made so much research about so many things so I can talk about everything, including music,” she says.

TikTok impact

TikTok has impacted many people positively, but not many in the way it has impacted GenerationsOfficial.

“It took me years to decide to be on social media, specifically TikTok. When you look at this app it is actually an app that has connected so many people, it has educated the young, the old, the mentally well, the mentally unwell. I mean, it has brought in so many people. So for me, TikTok has been a very big deal and it is one place where I have really gained so much in life that I did not see coming,” she says, with all the emphasis she can muster.

Also, TikTok has helped me a lot in terms of my mental wellbeing. It has been therapy for me, especially emotionally. There are things that you see on TikTok and you never thought they were happening. There are people you meet on TikTok, people share unbelievable stories that make you ask: Could this happen? Can this really be real? So for me, TikTok is just the whole vibe.”
