‘It’s your time now, but it will pass' - Leila Kayondo to new ‘TikTok musicians’

Singer Leila Kayondo has a word of advice to the new breed of trending musicians: Enjoy it while it lasts.

Kayondo, who has taken a break from music for years now, says this group of artists who come up mostly from social media platforms like TikTok, are merely a wave that will pass with time.

This new music is just a trend, just like we used to pierce our faces and tattoo all over our bodies, but the time came and that phase ended,” she said.

Nowadays we have people doing tummy tucks because it is the new trend. You cannot stop something that is trending…you just let it run. Its time will come and it will end. but good music will always be good music.”

Kayondo was last evening responding on TikTiok Live, to comments about whether or not she has become a “faded artist” and overshadowed by the new wave of musicians.

The singer said she was disappointed by people who call her faded, many of who don’t even have basic knowledge about the music industry.

People need to stop despising others, that so and so is faded. What about you who run other businesses? What if you have a struggling retail shop and someone comes and looks at it and says ‘Your shop is faded…how come your friends have supermarkets?’ How would you feel?” she remarked.

Despite stepping back from music to focus on farming in Masaka district, Kayondo said she is still working on new music, which she will release when the time is right.

Everything has its own time and music is a God-given talent. I can drop a new song even tonight, but I have to ask myself first if it is the right timing and if it is worth it, not just because I am being put under pressure,” she said.

She also revealed one of her new songs is about her mother.

Last year, Kayongo landed herself in hot soup when a video of her berating Alien Skin's "Party" song went viral.

She was forced to appologise later on to the Fangone boss.
