Beenie Gunter, African stars light up Toronto's Afro-Fest

From July 5th to July 7th, 2024, Toronto's streets buzzed with the vibrant sounds of dancehall, Afro-beat, and Afro-pop as Afro-Fest-Toronto brought together some of the biggest names in the music industry.

The festival, known for its celebration of African rhythms and melodies, featured performances by Uganda’s Beenie Gunter, Awilo Longomba, Alikiba, and the Grammy-nominated group Mafikizolo, among others.

Gunter delivered a standout performance that captured the audience's attention with his dynamic stage presence and energetic dance moves.

The artist, who is gearing up for his own Guntalk Festival in September, expressed his enthusiasm about performing alongside renowned artists like Alikiba and Awilo Longomba.

"I am excited for this opportunity to perform alongside industry heavyweights. It shows that I am ready to run with the big names in the industry, and I'm excited for the world to witness this," Gunter stated.

During his set, Beenie Gunter thrilled festival-goers with his hit tracks "On Me" and "Teppinn," blending his signature dancehall style with infectious Jamaican rhythms. The crowd was visibly engaged, dancing and singing along throughout his performance.

Awilo Longomba, the legendary musician from the Democratic Republic of Congo, also took the stage, offering a captivating show that combined his smooth vocals with his iconic dance moves. His performance was a highlight for many attendees, showcasing his enduring appeal and talent.

The synergy between Beenie Gunter, Alikiba, and Awilo Longomba was palpable, with the artists feeding off each other's energy, much to the delight of the audience. This musical camaraderie underscored the spirit of Afro-Fest, which aims to celebrate and propagate African music across the globe.

Looking ahead, Beenie Gunter's upcoming Guntalk Festival, scheduled for September 21st, 2024, at the Garden City rooftop, promises to be a significant event. Organized by Talent Africa Group, a leading events and management company in East Africa, the festival is set to feature an array of talented artists, continuing the celebration of African music and culture.
