Musicians won’t win you elections - Gashumba warns Museveni

Frank Gashumba has cautioned President Yoweri Museveni not to invest much in Ugandan musicians with the hope that he will convert votes in the 2026 elections.

President Museveni met with Ugandan musicians last week

Instead, Gashumba tipped the president, to focus on the real issues hurting Ugandans on the ground.

Gashumba was speaking in light of Museveni’s recent appointment of singer Eddy Kenzo as his senior advisor on creatives.

To prove their worthlessness, Gashumba challenged the president to have Kenzo and the musicians under his UNMF umbrella stage a parallel concert with opposition leader Bobi Wine to see who would attract more revellers.

“All these musicians I saw at State House, if you take them to Nakasongola to do a concert on one stage and Bobi Wine on another stage, Bobi will get more people,” he said.

The government has failed to understand the problems people are facing. People don't want music. They want hospitals, schools, roads and water. That's how they vote for you,” Gashumba stated.

I have traversed this country… these are the only issues people are talking about. No one is asking about musicians.
