How Juliana Kanyomozi convinced Sweet Kid to perform at her concert

Moses Sserwada, popularly known as Sweet Kid, said he almost turned down the opportunity to perform with Juliana Kanyomozi at her August 19 concert held at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

"She called me and told me I want us to surprise revelers... and I told her, but I don't want to sing... And she told me, you know, do this for our fans... And we harmonised, rehearsed, and I performed," Sweet Kid said in an interview with Spark TV.

Kanyomozi, who collaborated with the crooner on a 2015 reggae ballad titled 'Silina Mulala', has said she almost knelt down to convince him to perform.

Sweet Kid, however, doesn't regret the decision to share the same stage with his long-time friend.

"I felt so, so good because Juliana Kanyomozi is my friend from a long time ago. We've been to lots of concerts together, here and abroad. There is that chemistry that binds us," the 'Silikyusa' singer said.

The Hip-Hop singer, whose breakthrough song 'Mama Brenda' made him the youngest musician to win the then popular Pearl of Africa Music Award under the category of new upcoming musician, had said he can no longer perform for money.

But it seems that position is slowly changing.

"What you need to know is that there are a lot of people that are pushing me to perform... so, I have decided to selectively appear at some shows," he said, adding that his break from music has been to create time for his businesses.

"Nothing happened," he said when he was asked why he is turning down opportunities to perform.

"I even like music a lot... I just decided to focus on my other endeavours. Because I know when I start performing, I'll be on and off, so I won't make enough time for my business."

One of his investments is a restaurant called Pilau House.

"Honestly speaking, if I had been on and off, I wouldn't have succeeded... and right now it has picked up.. even my bar," he said.

The 'Abeerwa' singer also used to operate a studio and he repurposed it due to Covid-19 pandemic which heavily hit the music industry.

"I want to shift it and reopen it," Kid said. "I closed it during Covid because I was setting up the restaurant... Because for two years most people weren't making music.. So I wanted to utilise that space. But equipment is there."

Sweet Kid, who says he was inspired by reggae singers Wayne Wonder and Kevin Lyttle, said he performed with Juliana Kanyomozi "out of love".

Sweet Kid’s other popular jams include 'Abakusigula', 'Akadde', 'Kankutwale' and 'Malaika Wange'.
