- Iryn Namubiru, a Ugandan vocalist, is venturing into the world of social media influencing
- She overcame shyness to embrace the idea after encouragement from radio hosts Lucky Mbabazi and Gaetano Kagwa
- Mbabazi highlighted the potential for significant earnings in the influencer industry
Iryn Namubiru is set to try her luck as a social media influencer. The talented Ugandan vocalist says she feels ready to give this modern business a shot, having erstwhile felt “too shy”
“I am going to start now,” said Namubiru while appearing on Capital FM on Friday morning.
The singer was encouraged by radio hosts Lucky Mbabazi and Gaetano Kagwa to jump into the influencer business, to further extend her big brand in music.
Mbabazi, a social media juggernaut in Uganda, tipped the Nkuweki singer about the big money available in this gig business
She encouraged her to start by doing live streams of basic things she does at her home in France.
“You can stream cooking Ugandan foods, cleaning the house or taking to your kids,” Mbabazi said.
Namubiru has lived a relatively quiet life with her family in France.
She says she had always rejected the temptation of posting her life online because she feared “looking like a villager.”
“I see people posting themselves when visiting nice places like hotels, but I never really considered this because to me it feels like village swag,” she said.
“It feels like everybody knows this place, so why should I post it?”
Getting started
Gaetano and Lucky, however, shared ideas with Namubiru on overcoming timidness as a social media influencer,
“When building a brand on social media you can only share what you are comfortable with,” Lucky said.
“If you feel something is too embarrassing, do it indoors…it can be cleaning, interacting with children or even studio sessions. With time your confidence level will get better.”
Namubiru has her "Timeless Experience" concert coming on next week on on July 26th at the Kampala Sheraton
