When Kanyomozi scooped the award, she was facing off with Bebe Cool and Bobi Wine at their peak.
Cool had a banger like Kapere featuring Kid Fox and Wine's Mazzi Mawanvu was also hot. Geoffrey Lutaaya was vying for the same prize.
So, seeing Kanyomozi, who is known for her calm demeanour, react with so much excitement was a reflection of the competition she was facing.
When Patricia Ithau, who was then acting managing director of Uganda Breweries Limited, mentioned "and the award goes to", the camera turned to Kanyomozi who seemed tense as she rubbed the back of her neck.
The mood immediately changed when she was named the winner.
Kanyomozi, 42, is one of the few musicians that have a long-lasting music career, with music that resonates with almost every generation.
For instance, despite not releasing hot new music for about five years, she recently held a well-attended concert.
The songbird, who hails from Fort Portal, started singing in the 1990s as one-half of the all-girl duo I-Jay, with Iryn Namubiru. One of their popular songs was titled Vive La Vie.
She later went solo, but her breakthrough was when she collaborated with Bobi Wine to release Maama Wa Baana Ya Ani and Maama Mbiire.
Her first album was Nabikoowa which was released in 2005 and the second Kanyimbe which was released in 2007.
Away from music, Juliana Kanyomozi has also had stints in acting and radio presenting.
