I am not NUP or NRM -GenerationsOfficial

Although GenerationsOfficial is not a politician or any other kind of political actor, she has been labeled as an National Resistance Movement (NRM) operative because of the way she speaks truth to power in the Opposition.

All told, she used to be a supporter of the National Unity Platform (NUP) led by Opposition kingpin Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, she soon learnt a valuable lesson in politics from somebody very close to her.

“I used to be a supporter of NUP right from way back, but it was so unfortunate or even fortunate that at that time I was not on social media. I remember this guy Lumbuye that we used to believe in whenever he would say something we would do exactly that. So (one day) I wake up in the morning and they were like ‘Oooh, Lumbuye has been arrested. We need a contribution, we need people to contribute’. So I remember calling my mother and I’m like, ‘mummy, we need to send Lumbuye money because he’s in prison. He has no food, he has no nothing, we need to support his family’,” she reveals.

However, instead of receiving support from her mother, she was scolded by her.

“You are so silly,” her mum began. She then sat GenerationsOfficial down and gave her several examples which showed that politics is just a game. And from that day forward, GenerationsOfficial stopped believing in NUP or any other political side.

“Now, for some reason, the fact that I used to talk about NUP, especially the hate speeches and speeches that were inciting violence in people, I spent most of the time opening people’s eyes telling them that politics was just a game and so, for some reason, the NRM thought I was actually working for them and so did other people. Everyone thinks I am I am actually working for NRM but no; I was just doing my content for the sake of teaching people,” she confesses.

Although not political, her delving into politics has increased her numbers on TikTok. She has over 300,000 followers and a whopping 7 million likes. All this in a single year and she is just getting started.

Maybe, some people are saying, she should actually throw her hat in the ring and become a political leader.
