8 top takeaways from Sheebah and Cindy's current fitness workout routines

We often hear about the physical benefits of exercise and in the case of performers like singer Sheebah Karungi and Cindy Sanyu, these benefits cannot be understated. However, as much as it is about getting into shape, it is also a battle of wits and this is where the less often talked about psychological benefits of working out show up in both artists' routines.

Since announcing her comeback concert, Sanyu has started dishing it out in the gym and also getting busy with the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA). The expecting mother has picked up the gloves to get into her stride for the challenge she has set for herself. Not to mention the benefits of exercise for the baby and the pregnancy.

On the other hand, Karungi has been active when it comes to fitness, has been performing consistently where Sanyu wasn't and has more physical advantages.

That being said, mental resilience and coming out on top no matter the outcome of their current rivalry is a different issue altogether. And for most of the journey of fitness and physical health, this mental aspect is important.

What each artist is currently doing

Different personal trainers have different styles for different clients. Sanyu has decided on working out in the gym with a trainer while Karungi has stuck to her home workouts with the trainer's supervision as we'll see in the video below.

Other than the physical benefits, here are eight takeaways from their workouts in relation to their current feud. You can apply these to your own workout goals and routine.

1. Challenge

There's no denying that challenges, especially those we intentionally set for ourselves, have a way of boosting our motivation. Whatever Sanyu's motives behind the challenge, it has paid off not only by giving her publicity but also by forcing her into working out. The challenge has to have a timeline, too. If you have someone in mind for healthy competition, that is well and good. They don't have to know about the competition, but a workout buddy is also a good idea for healthy competition.

2. Improved mood

Working out is a great way to maintain a level head. Both artists have been sending each other jabs and digs and with the added pressure from fans and fellow artists, exercise is a great way to burn some steam.

3. Reduced stress and improved ability to cope with stress

New challenges require new personal resources to cope with and handle them. Through physical exertion and accomplishment during workouts, we pick new and better attitudes. Not to mention the endorphins that flood the body so we feel better and relaxed.

4. Improved self-esteem

Working out involves many things that can be building blocks for self-esteem, especially with physical appearance and physical abilities. When we have confidence in our abilities, and what our bodies can do, it can do wonders for our self-esteem.

5. Pride in physical accomplishments

A fit body is not only a good feeling but a good look too. The mere act of completing a workout routine can be a source of so much pride and achieving physical wellness is a win for our health.

6. Increased satisfaction with oneself

Challenges can come with a host of doubts and second-guessing. Working out can build feelings of self-assuredness and confidence in our choices.

7. Improved body image

Sometimes, even if our bodies don't change much, we can still feel proud of ourselves for feeling better, lighter, sleeping better, and wearing whatever we want as a result of confidence in our bodies.

8. Increased feelings of energy

Motivation and even inspiration are tied to our energy levels. As your energy levels go up, your motivation soars.

As you, and even the two artists, experience these psychological benefits, it is likely that they also will be motivated to continue exercising so that they continue to receive these benefits.

And according to the Association of Applied Sports Psychology, it doesn't take much to reap these benefits. For short-term benefits, a brief walk at low intensity,10 minutes of aerobic exercise can have a positive effect. For long-term benefits, you should exercise 3 times a week for 30 minutes per session at a moderate intensity and programs longer than 10 weeks work best for reducing symptoms of mental health issues.

It is approximately seven weeks away from the contested venue and date. How will both artists fair until then? Stay updated.
