Daniella Atim was at the wedding of one of her friends identified as Nalongo Giesbers. The ceremony was held in the small town of Hillsboro, Oregon Portland. Dressed in a Teal satin midi dress, the bridesmaid sips on a glass of Portland's Hamacher wine when memories of her father's company to distant Italian villages come to her.
Certain tastes and scents elicit memories and sensations of a time past. Sometimes we can describe the feeling and other times we can't put a finger on it. It's been seven years since he passed, but this 1995 wine and winery brought back memories of Father John Scalabrini to Atim.
"Something about @hamacherwines that reminded me about my father …that winery /vineyard felt like home to my heart and just resurrected memories of countless trips with my father …something about it felt like the beautiful Tuscany ,then it also felt like the little village of Limido, Comasco in the province of Como. I just needed pasta to complete the dejavu that place gave me," she writes.
Hamacher wines is the soul child of Eric Hamacher, who has talked about the wine saying, "I strive to produce handmade wines of individuality and elegance."
The mother of five described her encounter with Hamacher saying, "Did I mention that we even met the owner who of course is a super awesome human …he offered our party his best wine and yes, that too reminded me of my father and how wine was a big deal in our house hold."
The delights that brought fond memories apparently had the side effect of loud cheer which Atim apologised for, "Cheers to @lexyhavunen for being patient with the obviously loud team of Ugandans."
Atim was raised by Father John Scalabrini, an Italian Catholic priest. She shared a close relationship with him as she considered him her real father as well as her best friend. He breathed his last in 2016.
