Today 9, April 2023, Christians around the world celebrate the triumph and resurrection of Jesus Christ. With feasting, prayer and family moments, the commemoration of Jesus' resurrection is fundamental to Christians.

On this day, Jesus first appeared to some of his disciples before revealing himself to the rest. Before the final revelation, one of the disciples, Thomas, had a difficult time believing when he was told about Jesus' return. He would not believe it until Jesus appeared to him and told him to touch to ascertain his realness.

Once he had proof, Jesus went ahead and blessed those who believe without seeing. And from this experience, Thomas earned himself the name "Doubting Thomas".

The term also refers to those people who don't believe anything without seeing it for themselves. However, the punishment of the name doesn't seem to fit the crime. Although Thomas should have known better, his scepticism was not so unreasonable.

There are moments where we become Doubting Thomas but it is not with malicious intent and sometimes it is for our own good. When we don't allow others to dictate our views and ask for reality, it is not a crime. The best way is to address where the doubt is coming from and why it is there.

On the other hand, Doubting Thomas can be our undoing. Sometimes it even applies to ourselves when we doubt we can do things that others think or that we wish to do. But this is a defeatist way of seeing things because if you don't act, then you will never have proof.

Dealing with Doubting Thomas in others can also be challenging for our growth and experience. But we don't have to prove everything to others, only to ourselves and they may or may not believe.

But most importantly, we must not (or at least try not to) doubt our worth, our faith, love, hope, and our abilities. If this has been happening in your life, Easter is a great opportunity to remember and have compassion for the disciple Thomas and the Doubting Thomas in ourselves.
