We all have a habit or something we feel ashamed of and guilty for. It can be as serious as smoking or an alcohol issue or as subtle as procrastination and an attitude problem. Usually, we need some help to outgrow these habits or issues which can be hard to seek or accept. But there is one thing we can do about these habits, and that is to stop making excuses for them.

We can never get rid of excuses completely, but if we make them less frequent, perhaps we can start taking responsibility to change these habits. The list is not comprehensive but these are some of the most common ones.

While a bad habit may feel good at the moment and even become a defining component of your personality, it is something you should not make excuses for because it has negative physical, emotional, and psychological consequences sooner or later.

Here are some excuses you should stop making.

Don't tell people you are thinking of quitting so they can stop judging you or you can feel less guilty or ashamed about what you are doing.

Whether or not you will quit doesn't change anything in the moment. And just because you say it doesn't mean it is true. It is better to find solutions or simply keep quiet about it.

It is easy to self-diagnose oneself with the wealth of information and relatable experiences available on the internet and social media.

But unless you have been diagnosed by a professional, you should not attribute any of your traits or habits to a health condition, especially a mental health one.

Getting professional help would improve your situation, so making better personal choices and seeking help shouldn't be an option either.

Typically, stress requires that we make positive choices and take positive actions, not the opposite. So being stressed should push you to get the necessary resources to feel better not make your life and others' worse.
