The Kampala Metropolitan Traffic Police Commander, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rogers Nsereko Kavuma said that yesterday Monday September 12 at around 11:00am, the Presidential convoy knocked the boda boda which was carrying two passengers and the rider at Masanafu, between Busega and Namungoona.

According to Kawuma, the passengers and rider were alive by the time they were evacuated to hospital although they sustained grave injuries. However, he said that the President had not traveled with the convoy.

No one died, the passengers are still alive but with serious injuries and the President wasn’t in the convoy. It was an empty convoy,” Kawuma said.

In a video clip that captured the scene of the accident, three people are seen on the tarmac, two crying for help and one of the victims lying motionless. In the background, a woman is heard repeatedly saying that the President's mobile "toilet" had knocked the boda boda.

Some of the soldiers from the motorcade, putting on Special Forces Command (SFC) uniform and Presidential Protection Unit (PPU) uniform can be seen checking on the victims.

The SFC Spokesperson, Major Jimmy Omara said that a statement on the matter is being prepared.

According to the Traffic and Roads Safety Act and the Highway Code, the Presidential convoy is guaranteed right of way and and road users are advised to give way to his convoy at all times.
