Aviation Authority hikes parking fees at Entebbe International Airport

The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has announced new parking fees at Entebbe International Airport, which will take effect from November 1, 2024. This increase comes after 15 years, with the previous rates last revised in 2009. The changes aim to align parking fees with the operational costs required to upgrade airport facilities and improve passenger experience.

According to UCAA, the first hour of parking for saloon cars will now cost Uganda Shillings (UGX) 5,000, up from UGX 2,000, while vans and minibuses will be charged UGX 8,000, an increase from the previous UGX 4,000.

Lorries, trailers, and buses will now be charged UGX 10,000 for the first hour, up from UGX 5,000. Long-term parking fees will rise to UGX 30,000 for the first day, a significant jump from the previous UGX 10,000. For each additional hour, there will be a UGX 1,000 fee for all vehicle types.

For vehicles parked long-term, the first-day charge will be UGX 30,000, while each subsequent day will remain at UGX 10,000. However, if a vehicle remains parked for more than 30 days, a substantial daily fee of UGX 200,000 will be charged to discourage extended stays.

The table below compares the old and new parking fees:

Seasonal cards for long-term parking have also been introduced, with fees for residents and non-residents varying depending on the type of vehicle. For example, residents with saloon cars will pay UGX 60,000 per month, while non-residents will pay UGX 120,000.

Lorries and trucks will have monthly rates ranging from UGX 120,000 to UGX 240,000, depending on the residency status.

Vianney Luggya, the UCAA spokesman says the fee adjustments are part of a larger initiative by UCAA to improve services and accommodate the growing demands of Entebbe International Airport.

For frequent users, UCAA has provided additional details on seasonal parking rates and encourages passengers to review the new fees on their website or social media platforms to avoid any inconvenience.
