- The police accused the NUP of teaching violence and how to remove the regime at the 'School of Leadership' located at their former party headquarters
- The NUP's mobilization tour was previously stopped by the police after a traffic incident resulting in the death of three supporters
- In 2023, police also halted the mobilization tours due to disruption of traffic, accidents, and loss of business, and accused NUP of not sharing their movement schedules
According to Kyagulanyi, the NUP top party leadership will be meeting with the Uganda Police Force leadership after the opposition party was summoned for a meeting on July 11 over their new ‘School of Leadership’ located at their former party headquarters in Kamwokya, Kampala.
“They said that the meeting was prompted by the information they have that the school teaches violence and how to remove the regime based on models used in other countries! We emphasised that this is a Party function, where we train leaders in different aspects of leadership and citizenship,” NUP media stated on July 6.
The party’s mobilization tour was earlier stopped by police following a traffic incident in which three supporters of the National Unity Platform died.
The accident involved two motor vehicles and four motorcycles, which were part of a motorcade procession of National Unity Platform (NUP) leaders heading to Masaka for consultative activities.
Similarly, in 2023 Police stopped the mobilization tours arguing that there was disruption of traffic, accidents leading to loss of lives and loss of business noting that the party must follow police guidelines.
Police also accused NUP of not sharing with them their movement schedules.
The party in response, physically delivered their petition to the IGP. Party Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya called for fair treatment from the police, urging parity with other parties such as the FDC that freely conduct nationwide activities.
