Bobi Wine had to cool off scores of his supporters who were charging at the Kimanya-Kabonera Member of Parliament, Hon Abed Bwanika.
This was at the burial of Pasikali Ssekasamba, a member of the NUP and respected businessman who was living and working in London.
Paskali passed away early last month, succumbing to a heart condition
During the funeral service, Bobi Wine’s party members yanked the microphone from Hon Bwanika a few minutes into his speech.
Bwanika charges
The youthful members were angered when Bwanika started directly addressing Bobi Wine and Party Spokesman Waiswa Mufumbiro, accusing them of enabling some members to attack him and Hon Mathias Mpuuga on social media.
“We are all in the struggle and you must stop insulting us,” Bwanika fumed.
“You must stop abusing the Katikkiro. The people who are insulting us are your (Bobi Wine’s) children,” Bwanika remarked before the microphone was grabbed from him amid rising tensions.
With mourners shouting at the top of their voices and Bwanika forced to take his seat, the MC Meddie Nsereko called upon Bobi Wine to calm the crowd.
Calming the crowds
In his speech, Bobi Wine asked mourners to forgive Bwanika
“I want to apologise for Bwanika’s conduct. It is unfortunate and it doesn't paint a good picture for us,” he said.
“I am the president of the NUP and I am the one who took all these people to parliament. I ask that you understand him and forgive him.”
Bwanika is one of the NUP MPs who has taken a stand against the party ranks, following the scandal that saw Hon Mathias Mpuuga fired as party Vice President amid accusations that he allocated himself Shs 500million when he served as Leader of the Opposition.
Bwanika has also publicly accused Bobi Wine and the NUP leadership of hobnobbing with LGBTQ groups from the US and Europe.
Meanwhile, Bobi Wine in his speech also chided Hon Mathias Mpuuga whom he referred to as “our former commissioner,” saying that he had forgiven him of his transgressions
“I have no issue with Mpuuga. He made a mistake and apologized and I forgave him,” he said.
"It is unfortunate that I am the one who has to correct these elders. I have a challenge that whenever I am fighting the enemy I have to use one hand, while the other hand is fighting my own people who are holding me back from fighting the enemy.”
