Mpuuga this week attacked the NUP leadership, linking them to alcoholism and drug abuse.

Speaking at a function, the former Leader of the Opposition in Parliament inferred that the NUP party leadership and its MPs could dislodge President Museveni because they are always intoxicated.

You need to tell people who want to become leaders to get out of bars and stop drinking and smoking marijuana,” Mpuuga charged.

Mpuuga’s comments went viral on social media platforms and were picked up and shared mostly by supporters of the ruling NRM party.

However, Bobi Wine on Friday hit back at Mpuuga, questioning how he came to work with the people he now accuses of drug abuse.

This is a group of people led by (Kyagulanyi) whom you know very well, and you came and joined them, well knowing that they are drug users and drunkards,” he said.

"They chose you to be the Vice President of the marijuana smokers…Those drug users also picked you to be the Leader of Opposition and even made you commissioner. But when you stole they said 'no; we the drug addicts don't believe in theft.'"

The NUP president also aimed a jab at Mpuuga’s mental acuity, noting that his high level of education has not helped him.

I would tell you (NUP supporters) to take your kids to school, but I will tell you instead to raise them well and give them guidance,” he added.
